Junk Food Tax

We will examine the public health case for a junk food tax, as introduced in other countries such as Mexico and Hungary. We know that food products containing high levels of sugar and salt are responsible for causing obesity and associated conditions such as diabetes and cardio-vascular disease. A tax on unhealthy food products would be likely to change behaviour and persuade manufacturers to improve their products, as has been the case with the sugary drinks tax.
