Raising children out of poverty will be a central and defining mission for a Plaid Cymru government.
Removing the burden that poverty places on children helps them perform better at school, improves their long-term health, well-being and life chances, and reduces bills for both the welfare and health systems.
Reducing child poverty is therefore a smart investment in Wales’s future. And in making this investment, we will be led by the international evidence on what really works to tackle child poverty.
Unlike previous Welsh Governments, we will use every lever available to reduce child poverty and be unapologetic in pushing for the devolution of the additional powers we need to go further in delivering on this mission.
We will press the UK Government to ensure that scrapping the two-child limit on benefits delivers real change for children living in poverty, including by lifting the overall benefit cap.
