We are committed to the social model of disability – recognising that it is societal barriers and not individual impairments alone that act to disable people.
Taking a rights-based approach to removing these barriers and promoting real fairness and inclusion for disabled people, we will:
- Incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (UNCRDP) into Welsh law, via a Human Rights Act for Wales.
- Deliver a robust and action-oriented Disabled People’s Rights Action Plan, with clear lines of accountability, and regular and transparent reporting on progress.
- Remove barriers to participation, promote equal access and champion the leadership of disabled people in public, professional and political life in Wales.
- Ensure the voices of disabled people are heard in the design, delivery, and evaluation of Welsh public services – and that both physical and digital infrastructure are designed to promote accessibility and independence.
