Racism remains a structural issue in our communities, economy, and politics. We are proud of our role in delivering the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, and in government we will work to embed it and build on it.
We will:
- Enshrine the UN Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Welsh law through a Human Rights Act for Wales.
- Keep the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan under active review and report on progress, working closely with people with lived experience of racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and anti-Gypsy, Roma and Traveller prejudice to strengthen delivery and impact.
- Improve data collection and sharing to drive evidence-led interventions, including on hate crime and racist incidents in schools.
- Strengthen hate crime reporting and victim support, ensuring incidents are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Embed anti-racist education across the curriculum.
- Ensure that strategies and programmes to tackle poverty actively address the higher prevalence of poverty among Black and minority ethnic communities.
- Work to increase representation of Black and minority ethnic people in Welsh politics and public life, and strengthen duties to promote diversity and inclusion in recruitment across publicly funded organisations.
