We are committed to achieving a gender-equal Wales. Women and girls should be able to live free from discrimination, violence and economic disadvantage, with equal power, pay and opportunity.
Taking a rights-based and intersectional approach to tackling gender inequality, we will:
- Enshrine and embed the rights of women and girls in law, through a new Human Rights Act for Wales.
- Work to end gender inequality in the Welsh economy, including through targeted support for women to access high-skill and high-paid jobs, gender budgeting and the routine collection, analysis and publication of robust gender-disaggregated economic data, including pay gap data.
- Improve access to affordable childcare through our new childcare offer, support unpaid carers, and ensure care workers are paid fairly.
- Strengthen the Women and Girls’ Health Plan and guarantee free period products to promote period dignity.
- Work to increase the representation of women and girls in politics, and ensure their voices are meaningfully embedded in the design and delivery of public services.
We will work across all areas of government to end violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV), through a whole-system, prevention-led and society-wide approach.
This will include actively engaging people of all ages in schools, workplaces and public services to address the root causes of violence and abuse. We will embed education on healthy relationships, and provide guidance to parents, educators and community leaders to support early intervention.
We will support employers to create safer workplaces, free from violence and abuse.
And we will support victims and survivors by protecting funding for specialist, survivor-centred services, and by immediately exempting refuges from the Renting Homes Act to ensure access to safe accommodation.
