We recognise the vital role of farming and the wider food and drink sector in the Welsh economy. Welsh farmers produce sustainable, nutritious and high-quality food, and our food and drink businesses turn that world-class produce into a wide variety of products enjoyed across Wales and exported abroad, creating jobs and adding value.
To support farming, our food and drink sector, and the wider rural economy, we will:
- Support the agriculture sector in a way that underpins the long-term sustainability of farm businesses.
- Provide tailored business support for agriculture, food and drink through the new National Development Agency, promoting innovation and business growth in the sector and supporting succession processes that keep businesses Welsh-owned.
- Develop a new national Food Strategy for Wales to strengthen food supply chains, improve food security and make greater use of public procurement to support Welsh food and drink producers.
- Implement a Rural Development Strategy, including targeted measures to tackle the particular challenges facing rural Wales and overcome the structural barriers to growth in the rural economy.
