Future-proofing our NHS

We will put our health and care services on a new and sustainable footing to meet the challenges of the 21st century. This includes bringing health spending under control, and in so doing unlocking greater resources to invest in tackling the root causes of ill-health, rather than simply managing sickness.

Actions in the first 100 days:

  • Establish a health finance efficiency team within the Welsh Government, which will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the fiscal performance of health services, and for developing clear incentives for prudent budget management
  • Develop a roadmap for eliminating spending on private agency staff in the NHS by 2030
  • Commission a comprehensive audit of health data sources in Wales
  • Commission a joint review with Audit Wales and Health Education and Improvement Wales on the effectiveness of the current Escalation and Intervention Framework
  • Begin the development of a ten-year delivery programme for Digital Health and Care Wales, based on the overarching ambition of making Wales a world leader in digital health innovation
