A healthy and caring Wales

Three quarters of a century since its birth, the National Health Service, once the envy of the world and the pride of our nation, now faces relentless demand and overstretched resources.

Timely patient access has been compromised by the neglect of primary and social care, contributing to a vicious cycle of escalating and unsustainable costs at the frontline and stubbornly long waiting lists.

Meanwhile, the demographic challenges of the coming decades, which will include an ageing population, will see these pressures inevitably intensify.

We will begin the process of renewal to get our beleaguered health system back on its feet.

Our focus will be on bringing down waiting lists, increasing funding for primary care, placing greater emphasis on preventative health across all government departments, and creating a more resilient social care system for the long term.

We will secure an NHS that works for patients and frontline staff alike.
