Towards a more just Wales

Respect. Solidarity. Fair play. These values have always mattered to people in Wales.

We will make them guiding principles of government – shaping how we reduce poverty, tackle inequality and build fairer, safer and united communities.

Practical action to tackle the injustice of child poverty and give every child a fair start in life will be a top priority for a Plaid Cymru government.

We will ensure that everyone feels welcome and is able to play their part in our community of communities – that no one faces discrimination or is treated unfairly.

And we will fight for the powers we need to build a justice system that works for Wales.

Actions in the first 100 days:

Protecting human rights in Wales

• Take forward proposals to incorporate key United Nations human rights conventions into Welsh law, building on existing rights protections and embedding international standards in the design and delivery of devolved public services

Ending violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence

• Work to end violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV) across all areas of government, through a whole-system, prevention-led approach
• Protect funding for specialist, survivor-centred VAWDASV services, and immediately exempt refuges from the Renting Homes Act to ensure access to safe accommodation for survivors

A National Crime Prevention Agency for Wales

• Bring forwards plans for a new National Crime Prevention Agency for Wales to coordinate crime prevention and diversion across police forces, the NHS, local authorities, schools, and third-sector partners

Developing a Welsh Welfare System

• Press the UK Government on devolving welfare powers to Wales, on a par with Scotland, so that we can build a social security system in Wales, for Wales
• Review existing Welsh benefits and associated schemes like the Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF), to maximise impact and guarantee value for money
• Begin the work of incorporating Cynnal as a new Welsh benefit
