Better government
Our promise to the people of Wales is simple – to lead a Welsh Government that works hard every day to make their life better, doing so with principle and purpose.
We will build a more confident, modern nation, where everyone who lives in Wales is able to contribute towards our collective success. Underpinning our programme is a conviction that our government must be a better government. The people of Wales deserve no less.
People in Wales have increasingly lost faith in governments – they are seen as distant, not reflecting their priorities, telling not listening, talking not doing.
We set out our new approach as a government – to bring our public services together as One Welsh Public Service and establish core values that will drive our all work.
Our Government and our public services more broadly will be:
- People Centred. We will focus our work on the impact of our policies, legislation and actions on people. We will ask the difficult questions and ensure that for everything we do we can answer the question, what impact will our work have on people’s lives in Wales?
- Open and Transparent. We will adopt an open and transparent approach to our work in government, sharing information and insights, highlighting opportunities and challenges – to build confidence anew in our Welsh democracy
- Cooperative and Collaborative. We will seek to bring people together within government, across the public sector and beyond – to cooperatively and collaboratively address the challenges we face
Action in first 100 days:
- Create a digitally enabled Welsh ‘Cabinet Office’ to drive our priorities forward including – policy, delivery and data specialists
- Appoint a dedicated minister, working alongside a core team of ministers, to ensure progress on our key priorities and to report on a regular basis to cabinet
- Agree a set of measurable outcomes and progress milestones – widely shared – where we can measure the success of our initiatives in changing people’s lives for the better
- Adopt a test and learn approach to delivering on our key priorities, enabling action at pace and flexibility
- Begin the work of introducing enhanced training and development programme across the Welsh public sector to develop skills and foster a unity of purpose and vision while developing a National School of Government
Our ambition is for Wales to become known for its innovation and effectiveness in public service delivery – in changing people’s lives for the better. We have a clear strategy – developed by bringing together insights from across the UK and further afield – to ensure that the Plaid Cymru Government can make meaningful positive change to people’s lives.
