Plaid Cymru has launched a new ‘Friends of Plaid’ supporters scheme to enable people to support the Party for just £5 a year.

Launching the scheme at the Plaid stand at the National Eisteddfod Maes in Tregaron, Plaid Cymru Leader Adam Price said that the scheme would give Plaid-curious supporters the opportunity to offer their support with the hope that they will become full members in due course.

Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price said:

“Over two hundred and twenty thousand people vote for the Party in elections but the majority are not members of the movement - the ‘Friends of Plaid’ scheme is intended to start changing that.

“The strength of our party is its people and with every new member or supporter, our ability to work smarter for our movement and for our country is growing.

“We want to attract those people who are curious about the Party and vote for it in any election and give them the experience of being part of a movement that espouses progressive policies and an exciting vision for Wales.”

Dafydd Iwan, former President of the Party leading the launch of the scheme at the Eisteddfod, added:

“This is a very exciting time for Plaid Cymru. The independence movement is going from strength to strength and more people than ever are curious about the idea of our nation standing on its own two feet.

“I know that thousands of people who are not members of the Party share our vision of a fairer, greener and more prosperous Wales, and I hope that the Friends of Plaid scheme will open the door for them to become a fuller part of our movement.

“I would urge all those who have either merged with the Party’s policies and vision or voted for it at any point to take this opportunity to make a difference and change Wales for the better.”
