Remembering Councillor Marcia Spooner

Plaid Cymru have paid tribute to our beloved Councillor Marcia Spooner who passed away on 29 October 2023 following a short illness.

Plaid Cymru was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Marcia Spooner, county and community councillor in Rhos, Neath Port Talbot. 

Marcia also worked as officer manager to Plaid Cymru MS for South Wales West, Sioned Williams. She previously served in the same role under Dr Dai Lloyd, former Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for the same region.

Paying tribute to her friend and colleague, Sioned Williams MS for South Wales West said,

“Marcia was a special and beloved member of the team and also a close and dear friend.

“She was also a hard-working County and Community Plaid Cymru Councillor for Rhos.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family at this very difficult time. We are devastated as a team. Marcia will be missed by so many, in Plaid Cymru, in her community and of course by all who knew her.”

Councillor Alun Llewelyn, Leader of Plaid Cymru group on Neath Port Talbot County Council and Councillor for Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera said,

“We will all miss Marcia dearly. Not only as a Councillor and active member of Plaid Cymru but as part of her community.

“I have known Marcia all her life since her childhood in Ystalyfera. She was a conscientious councillor for Rhos but also a friendly, kind and lively person.

“We extended our deepest condolences to her husband Simon, their children Ffion and Ciaran and the grandchildren, and to her mother Maureen and brother Stephen.

“Thank you to Marcia for all she achieved, and it was a privilege to know her.

Plaid Cymru Leader Rhun ap Iorwerth MS added,

“On behalf of Plaid Cymru, I extend my deepest condolences to Marcia’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“Marcia was the best of us. A loyal friend and hard-working colleague, Marcia was committed to serving her community in Rhos. She never hesitated to go above and beyond to help anyone who needed it.  

“This is a truly terrible loss for the Plaid Cymru family and the Pontardawe area. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this sad time.”
