Plaid Cymru respond to 'desperate' Tory manifesto of 'rehashed announcements and empty promises'
Experts have already dismissed Sunak's costings for North Wales Main Line electrification, says Liz Saville Roberts
Responding to the Tories' manifesto launch today (Tuesday 11 June), Plaid Cymru Westminster leader, Liz Saville Roberts said:
“The Tory manifesto offers nothing to Wales but rehashed announcements and empty promises. Transport experts have already dismissed Sunak’s costings for the electrification of the North Wales Main Line. £1 billion won’t touch the sides.
“Plaid Cymru’s manifesto will make clear that nothing less than the full £4 billion figure will be acceptable for Wales to compensate Wales for spend on HS2 in England. Only Plaid Cymru will demand fair funding for Wales.
“Sunak is today desperately plugging a pie-in-the-sky 2p National Insurance cut while slashing billions from public services and abandoning the disabled and vulnerable. After 14 years of failure, people see through the bribes.
“We need honesty from the Westminster parties on tax policy. Our current tax system is unfair, with people like Rishi Sunak paying far less tax on investments than workers do on hard graft. Plaid Cymru would equalise tax on capital gains with income tax, which would raise £15 billion a year.
“Vote Plaid Cymru on 4 July for functioning, well-funded public services, not reckless cuts.”
