Leanne Wood: ‘Vote Plaid Cymru for a successful EU exit’

Leader of Plaid Cymru, Leanne Wood AM, has stated that it is time for Wales to move “beyond the referendum and make the choices that will shape our lives and the lives of generations to come.”

In a decisive Sunday Times article, Ms Wood details how Plaid Cymru is the only party that will secure a successful EU exit for Wales.

Outlining the stark choice Wales faces, Plaid Cymru’s leader contrasts the Conservative Brexit threat to Wales with Plaid Cymru’s positive plan to create a thriving and successful Welsh society and economy after leaving the EU. The article explains that with Labour weak and divided it is unable to represent Wales, and that only by electing Plaid Cymru MPs will Wales’ national interest register on the Westminster agenda.

The intervention by the Welsh national party’s leader argues that if we do not move on from the referendum and vote in Wales’s national interest on June 8th, Wales will be defenceless from Tory attempts to sell off the Welsh NHS and allow cheap imports to undermine our steel and agriculture sector as it pursues dangerous foreign trade deals.

Writing in the Sunday Times, Plaid Cymru leader, Leanne Wood says:

“For the sake of all our futures, we need to look beyond the referendum at the choices that we must now make, the choices that will shape our lives and the lives of generations to come. It’s time to move on from the 2016 referendum and focus on what a good deal for Wales could look like.

“Wales has a choice – either be swept up and used as a bargaining chip by the Tories in their attempts to further England's national interests, or for our people to choose a better way, where Wales has a voice and refuses to allow ourselves to be bullied by Westminster.

“Whilst politicians of every other political order will spend the next four weeks quibbling over arguments of the past, we will move on, and look to the future in order to secure a good deal for Wales. We will seek a positive future for Wales based on the defence of our economy, our communities and even our identity.

“Now is the time for us all to move beyond the decision to leave the EU, to show that we believe in Wales, to defend Wales and to vote for Wales.”
