Tell us about yourself
Married with two children, I have lived in north Pembrokeshire all my life and am proud to have played my part in community and economic development in West Wales over the past 30 years.
I was brought up on the family dairy farm in Llwyndrain, North Pembrokeshire and appreciate the changes that continue to face agriculture and the rural economy. I now live in Hermon in North Pembrokeshire. I helped set up a new social-enterprises in the village, I spearheaded the development of Canolfan Hermon Cooperative, a rural resource centre that has 150 local shareholders in a site that offers meeting and employment opportunities for community groups and small businesses.
In May 2017 I was elected the county councillor for Crymych ward and became the cabinet member at Pembrokeshire county council with responsibility for the Environment, Public Protection and the Welsh Language portfolios. I am also currently the chair of Crymych community council where I can fully appreciate appreciate the challenges that our local communities are facing.
What is the most important thing you think the Senedd should do in the next five years?
Over the next five years, the Senedd should focus on issues relating to reducing poverty while offering opportunities for people to develop skills reach their full potential. People could be supported in setting up their own businesses and creating new social enterprises to fill the gaps in the provision of local services.
What will you do for Preseli Pembrokeshire / Mid and West Wales if elected?
I will ensure that the people of Preseli Pembrokeshire can build on the great community and neighbourhood schemes that emerged during the Covid19 pandemic so that services are controlled and prioritised by local people. This will range from health and well-being services to economic and net carbon initiatives. Local communities will play a great role in social and economical developments.
